Hiring Now - Principal IP Engineer (Junior Patent Attorney)

The Opportunity

Our Principal IP Engineer will play a key role within the company. They will provide comprehensive support within the UK Innovation team with respect to helping our teams identify and document innovations to continually update and add to our portfolio of patents actively being discovered during the course of executing key projects. The preferred base for this role is our Edinburgh HQ, however working from our London location may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patents, technologies, and markets and report to business leaders on the engineering strength of the technologies.

  • Identification, valuation and purchase recommendations of patent portfolios.

  • Review and value IP assets.

  • Working within an existing multidisciplinary Innovation team to extract key ideas and concepts, and refine to the point where the novel aspects of invention can be clearly stated and secured.

  • Supporting IP litigation in conjunction with external legal specialists.

  • Collaborate with our global legal counsel and external IP attorneys, and act our primary point of contact for patent development and jurisdictional rollout.

  • Has an Engineering or Science degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, Physics, or similar.

  • Has demonstrable technology development and commercialisation knowledge and experience.

  • Is experienced in using online analytics tools, ideally those that allow you to research patents and IP data.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively to a high standard.

  • Highly organised and pays attention to detail.

  • Driven to meet deadlines.
